West haven cake ingredients:

3/4	lb	Dates, cut in half
1	cup	Hot water
1	tsp.	Soda
1	cup	Sugar
1/2	cup	-Shortening
1/4	tsp.	Salt
2		Eggs, beaten
1	tsp.	vanilla
1 3/4	cup	flour
1	tsp.	Cocoa
1/2	cup	Pecans, whole
1		Chocolate chips, small pack

West haven cake preparation:

1. Over dates, pour hot water with soda.

2. Let cool.

3. Cream sugar and shortening.

4. Add dates and salt.

5. Add eggs, vanilla and flour sifted with cocoa.

6. Pour in 9 x 13" pan. Sprinkle pecans and chocolate chips over dough in pan. Bake 40 minutes in moderate (350 degree) oven.

7. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream, if desired.
