Raspberry Nut Cake\Bakeoff Winner 1953 ingredients:

2 tsp. butter
2 tbsp. Fresh bread crumbs
---BASE---
150 g (5oz) ground almonds
210 g (7oz) caster sugar
6 Egg whites
---ICING---
6 Eggs yolks
300 ml. (10 fl oz) cream
130 g (4oz) caster sugar
75 g (2oz) butter
---GARNISH---
Flaked roasted almonds

Raspberry Nut Cake\Bakeoff Winner 1953 preparation:

1. A senior winner in the 1953 Pillsbury bakeoff.
2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, soda, salt and cinnamon.
3. Cream together the Spry (solid shortening) and sugar.
4. Add eggs, milk and vanilla; beat very well until smooth.
5. Fold in nuts and raspberries.
6. Pour into 2 well greased 8 inch layer pans.
7. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30-40 minutes.
8. Cool on wire rack then frost.
9. Pink raspberry frosting: Cream 1/3 cup butter or margarine, 1/2 tsp salt, Blend in 3 cups confectioners sugar altrnately with 2 T pureed raspberries and 2-3 tablespoons hot cream.
10. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla, mix and frost cake.
