Maple-Frosted Golden Cake ingredients:

-----GRAHAM CRACKER-----
30 Graham cracker crumbs
-finely chopped -- 1 1/2 c
3 tbsp. Sugar
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
-----chocolate CRUMB-----
1 1/2 cup chocolate wafer cookies
-finely ground--24 cookies
3 tbsp. Sugar
1/4 cup butter Or margarine
-----GINGERSNAP-----
1 1/2 cup Round gingersnaps -- finely ground--30 cookies
3 tbsp. Sugar
1/4 cup butter Or margarine
-----NUT CRUST-----
3 oz. Pecans, almonds, pistachios, hazeln -- toasted--finely gr
3/4 cup Plain or chocolate graham crackers -- finely ground
3 tbsp. Sugar
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted

Maple-Frosted Golden Cake preparation:

1. In mixing bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
2. Add 3/4 cup of the milk and the shortening.
3. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed of electric mixer.
4. Add remaining milk, eggs, and vanilla.
5. Beat 2 minutes more.
6. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 8 x 1 1/2-inch round baking pans.
7. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.
8. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pans.
9. When cool, fill and frost with Maple Frosting.
10. MAPLE FROSTING: In saucepan cook 1 1/4 cups pure maple syrup to soft ball stage (238).
11. Gradually add the hot maple syrup to 2 stiffly beaten egg whites, beating constantly with electric mixer.
12. Stir in 1/4 cup sifted powdered sugar and beat till well blended.
