Jewish Apple Cake ingredients:

2/3 cup -Shortening
1 1/2 cup Sugar
3 large Eggs
2 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
1/2 cup Cocoa
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. Baking soda
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 cup water
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup Sauerkraut; drained
Cream Cheese Frosting:
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened
Or margarine
1 pk Confectioners' sugar
Sifted; 16-oz package
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Jewish Apple Cake preparation:

1. Peel the apples, slice thinly.
2. Mix well with cinnamon and 7 Tbls sugar, coverin g apples well.
3. Set aside.
4. Mix other igredients well.
5. Add nuts.
6. Into a well grea sed tube pan, pour half the batter.
7. Add half the apples, then the remaining hal f of the batter, and the rest of the apples on top. Bake for 1 hr and 45 min. B egin checking after the first hour.
8. Let cool _in pan_ 20 minutes.
