How To Wake Dry Lemons. Have lemons that seem a little dry? Don't throw them away. You can wake them up by placing them in a bowl and covering the lemons with buttermilk or sour milk. Let them set for a couple days or longer. Just be sure to change the milk weekly. See the difference? Now, you can use the lemon you would have thrown away! Lemons will also keep for months, if you keep them in a container filled with cold water. Be sure the container has a tight fitting lid! Lemon Extract. Thinly peel 1 lemon with a vegetable peeler. Be sure you do not include any of the white part. Dice the peel and combine with 1/4 cup water and 1/2 cup vodka. Pour Lemon Extract into a clean glass jar and set aside to steep for at least 3 days. Store it anywhere, and it will keep for up to one year. Loaf Cakes tips Keeping Loaf Cakes Fresh. To keep loaf cakes fresher longer, cut slices from the middle rather than from the end. When you're finished slicing, firmly push the two leftover sections together to reform a loaf. This way, you eliminate leaving an exposed, quick-to-dry-out "end" slice. |
